The oil is used extensively as a source of perfumery chemicals such as citronellal, citronellol, and geraniol. Dog trainers use citronella collars to train a dog's barking problem. These collars are capable of spraying a substance composed of citronella on a dog's face, mildly irritating the dog's nose.
